East Hill Country Discovery Map Cover to be Awarded to Canyon Lake Artist next Friday

More than a quarter of a million tourists expected to view the winning cover artwork by local artist for the upcoming 3rd Edition Discovery Map

Canyon Lake, TX – A Canyon Lake artist will have the unprecedented opportunity in one week to capture first place in a community wide, summer art competition and see their winning illustration on the cover of the upcoming East Hill Country Discovery Map, where it will be showcased before more than a quarter of a million leisure tourists and business travelers.

A panel of judges, comprised of regionally renowned artists, will award the highly anticipated 1st prize to a local artist at the Sattler Artisans’ Alley next Friday, Aug. 3rd. The Awards Ceremony gets underway at 6:30 p.m., and is the culmination of a summer long artist competition sponsored by Sattler Artisans’ Alley and East Hill Country Discovery Map. The art show was the brainchild of Michelle Deere, the owner and publisher of East Hill Country Discovery Map, who coordinated this exciting event with Pamela Dorfman, the owner of Sattler Artisans’ Alley in Canyon Lake.

Deere said she wanted to “work together to highlight this part of the Hill Country in the best way possible, showcasing this amazing area to our tourists and residents. By displaying local art on the cover, not only are we showing some of the beautiful art that is part of this region, but we are showing off the community through the eye of an artist.”

Dorfman said scores of area artists from the age of 10 to 80 have participated and submitted their artwork, which will continue to be on display through the Labor Day weekend. Such diverse art genres represented in the submissions include watercolor, oil, and acrylic. This August Art Show is entitled, “Making Canyon Lake Memories.”

“This is a great way to show that Canyon Lake produces artists who are truly prolific, and this also gives us a wonderful opportunity for Canyon Lake to show the artist merit of our community,” said Dorfman, who, along with Deere, will host the Reception and Awards Ceremony.

One contestant, Barbara Hines of Canyon Lake, said she welcomes this unique chance to really put Canyon Lake on the map, artistically speaking, adding “This is a particularly exciting opportunity for artists of the Canyon Lake community to share a bit of our heart which is, of course, Canyon Lake.”
